Kate’s Comic Picks 10/23

Sorry for the brief hiatus! I recently got my Masters degree, moved across the country, and got a new job! Here are my top comic picks for tomorrow.

To start out with, there are a few first issues coming out tomorrow that should definitely catch your attention:

1.) Pretty Deadly #1

PrettyDeadly

With Kelly Sue Deconnick and Emma Rios united, this book should be a no brainer. For those of you who need more to be interested: the book is about Death’s daughter and her tale of retribution. Do you need any more? You shouldn’t.

2.) Velvet #1

Velvet1
If you’ve read Fatale or Brubaker‘s Catwoman run, you’ll know that he hits it out of the park when it comes to lead femme fatales. On this he’s reunited with Steve Epting, his Winter Knight partner in crime. This should be another no-brainer if you read non supes books.

3.) Samurai Jack #1

Samurai Jack 1
I have a weak spot in my heart for cartoons made comics. Also, IDW has done a great job with its other licensed properties, and with Andy Suriano a character designer for the original tv series doing the art, it should stay pretty true to its core aesthetic.

4.)  Mass Effect Foundation #4

Mass Effect Foundation 4
I wouldn’t really recommend the series to non die-hard Mass Effect fans, and even then this comic has not really blown me out of the water yet. However, Kaidan is on the cover with his shirt off and I just can’t help myself.

5.) Sex Criminals #2

SexCriminals2
Fraction and Zdarsky nailed (haha nailed) the first issue of Sex Criminals which followed Suzie coming of age and learning she can stop time. This issue promises to  do the same for John, the sex-partner in crime. Packed with sex and hijinks (sometimes simultaneously) this is an original take on someone with super powers.

6.) Young Avengers #11

Young Avengers 11
Kieron Gillen and Jamie McKelvie have done a great job with this rag tag group of slightly hormonal teenagers. With “Loki: Agent of Asgard” recently announced, this issue might finally see Loki all grown up….or at least reveal his plans to get there. A great book, which hopefully will get a surge of Loki fanatics picking it up this week.
Those are the comics I am most looking forward to this week. As always, f you think I missed something noteworthy, duke it out with me in the comments!
